For a guy who shuns the spotlight, Quebec construction magnate Tony Accurso sure had his name in the news a lot in 2009: almost 200 mentions in La Presse alone. Accurso's companies have an enviable record in obtaining government contracts, but they hit a few speed bumps this year; three are under investigation for alleged tax fraud, and the controversial municipal water-meter contract in which one was a partner got cancelled. Accurso also made waves with his luxury yacht Touch (featured in the magazine Showboats International), which has hosted Quebec labour leaders and even a vacationing Frank Zampino, former head of Montreal's executive committee. There is absolutely no truth to the rumour the boat's original name was POL MAGNET."
